Septembre 2021 : Pose du vitrail de l’Arbre de Vie, dans la nouvelle chapelle Notre Dames des Missions de la communauté des Jésuites, 47 rue Montolieu à Marseille.
Réalisé en collaboration avec Laurence BAUFINE, ce travail a été un beau et riche moment d’atelier. Cette fois encore, j’étais impatient de découvrir le vitrail in situ. Le très bon accueil dans la communauté Jésuite qui nous hébergeait, et en particulier de son supérieur, Michel JOSEPH, a beaucoup contribué, ainsi que la petite équipe qui s’est constituée à pied levé pour nous aider, Pascale et moi, à ce que tout se passe bien et rapidement. Je rencontrais aussi pour la première fois certains des interlocuteurs que j’avais durant le travail, tel que Laurent TOUSSAINT, et l’architecte Stéphane BAUMEIGE qui a conçu le bâtiment.
Après les mois d’atelier et même de suspens pour cause de cotes difficiles à obtenir, nous découvrions, panneaux après panneaux, l’arbre dans sa totalité ! Soulagement, le travail tient bien la lumière et le mur, comme nous disons dans le jargon verrier, et s’intègre déjà dans la chapelle, même si elle n’est pas terminée. Les arrières plans sont gommés et la lumière vibre doucement grâce à la peinture à la grisaille qui apporte une vibration par ses nuances.
Un Chemin de Croix réalisé en fusing, également réalisé en collaboration avec Laurence, vient compléter et accompagner ce grand vitrail.
Une dalle de baptême sous la forme d’une Colombe en fusing, nous accueille à l’entrée de la chapelle, dans l’axe de l’Arbre de Vie.
Installation of the stained glass window of the Tree of Life in Marseille.
Realized in collaboration with Laurence BAUFINE, this work was a beautiful and rich moment of workshop.
Once again, I was eager to discover the stained glass window in place.
The very good welcome in the Jesuit community that hosted us, and in particular from its superior Michel JOSEPH,
contributed greatly, as did the small team that was formed on short notice to help Pascale and me, to make everything go well and quickly.
I also met for the first time some of the interlocutors I had during the work, such as Laurent TOUSSAINT, and the architect Stéphane BAUMEIGE who designed the building.
After the months of workshop and the suspense due to difficult to obtain dimensions, we discovered, panels after panels, the tree in its entirety! Relief, the work holds the light and the wall well, as we say in the glass jargon, and already fits into the chapel, even if it is not finished. The backgrounds are erased and the light vibrates gently thanks to the paint with the greyness which brings a vibration by its shades.
A Way of the Cross made in fusing, also made in collaboration with Laurence, completes and accompanies this large stained glass window.
A baptismal slab in the form of a fusing dove welcomes us at the entrance of the chapel, in the axis of the Tree of Life.
